I created this brief documentary to share how the Wright Brothers’ home library and belief in reading helped them become the first to acheive manned flight.
Bookroo: Reading and Discovery of Flight
"My observations . . . have only convinced me more firmly that human flight is possible and practicable. . . . I am about to begin a systematic study of the subject in preparation for practical work to which I expect to devote what time I can spare from my regular business. I wish to obtain such papers as the Smithsonian Institution has published on this subject, and if possible a list of other works in print in the English language." -Wilbur Wright (in a letter to the Smithsonian Institution) Did you know the important role books and reading played in the Wright brothers' discovery of flight?Posted by Bookroo on Wednesday, March 28, 2018
I created this brief documentary to detail an important lesson about Walt Disney’s early efforts to improve the field of animation and how he turned to books for help.
Reading and the Development of Animation
We were fascinated to learn that early in his careeer as an animator, Walt Disney wanted to improve the animation process at the studio where he worked. Where else would he turn but to books!? He found some relevant books at the Kansas City library and started pouring over them. He even copied some of the pages and kept them by his desk for reference. Needless to say, his employers were very impressed by his new animations! Do you think that's why Disney believed books should be treasured? Reading is empowering! That's why we love helping you Raise Readers! "There is more treasure in books than in all the pirate's loot on Treasure Island." – Walt Disney (If you want to learn more, read Walt Disney, by Bob Thomas.)Posted by Bookroo on Thursday, May 17, 2018
